Thanks to Mercedes-Benz Canada, we had the privilege of conducting an in-depth assessment of the 2023 Mercedes EQB 350 in the captivating Night Black colour. Upon our initial encounter, the EQB exuded an aura of sophistication and modernity. Its exterior design adeptly balances rugged elegance with futuristic elements. The distinct continuous light strips that trace the contours of the vehicle bear testament to the evolution of Mercedes-Benz’s design language. The addition of the opaque black grille panel provides an intriguing touch, complemented by the 19-inch alloy wheels adorned with subtle blue accents, further enhancing the EQB’s environmentally conscious approach.
Stepping into the EQB, its interior envelops you with a warm embrace, offering generous space and adaptable seating for up to seven passengers, although the third row is more suited for children due to limited legroom. The versatility of the interior design becomes evident with the 40/20/40 split folding second row and the 50/50 split third row, allowing you to configure the seating arrangement to accommodate passengers and cargo as needed. The EQB boasts an impressive cargo capacity of 495 liters with the third-row seats folded, expanding to a maximum of 1710 liters when both the second and third rows are folded down, providing ample room for various lifestyles and needs.
Drawing inspiration from its GLB counterpart, the EQB’s interior showcases meticulous craftsmanship and employs premium materials that exude both luxury and sustainability in every detail. The EQB’s Premium Package, featuring the prestigious Burmester 12-speaker surround sound system with 590 watts, adds an extra layer of sophistication for those who relish refined experiences. Notably, the Burmester sound system enriches your auditory journey within the cabin. Its precision and excellence breathe life into your cherished melodies, allowing you to savor each note through an impeccable blend of clarity and opulence.
Settling into the driver’s seat, a prevailing sense of tranquility embraces you, further enhanced by the cabin’s remarkable insulation from external disturbances. This culminates in an inviting ambiance that not only deepens your musical connection but also embodies the brand’s commitment to a luxurious and comfortable ride. Regarding recharging, the EQB offers versatile options to suit your needs. Utilizing a 240V power source, you can expect a charging time of about 7.5 hours to replenish the battery from 10% to 80%. Alternatively, a Level 3 charger, capable of delivering up to 110 kWh, can provide a swift charge in approximately 32 minutes—an enticing option for those seeking a rapid turnaround. For more modest situations, a Level 1 charger offers about 1.3 kWh, serving as a dependable fallback.
The EQB presents a compelling package with a base price starting at $75,700, affirming its commitment to luxury, innovation, and sustainability. Our as-tested EQB, priced at $85,500, encompasses an array of enhancements that elevate your driving experience. Noteworthy additions such as third-row seating, the Intelligent Drive Package, and the Premium Package contribute to the heightened luxury and innovation that the EQB embodies.
With these additions, the EQB continues to position itself as a premium choice in the market. While its price point may surpass that of its gasoline-powered GLB counterpart, the EQB remains a competitive contender against rivals such as the BMW iX,Audi Q4 E-tron, and Genesis GV60. Our experience has highlighted occasional sponginess in the EQB’s brake pedal—a reminder that even remarkable accomplishments can have areas for improvement.
