Genesis has quickly established itself as a premium luxury brand with impressive models like the G80, G90, and G70. Now, the brand is making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance. In this review, we’ll take a closer look at this impressive vehicle and what it has to offer.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance in Uyuni White, provided to us by Genesis Canada, is built on the advanced E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platinum) platform by the Hyundai Motor Group. This luxurious electric SUV boasts impressive features such as 21-inch alloy wheels, a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premium Audio system, and dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.
We have two options to choose from – the Advance trim level and the Performance trim level. The Advance trim level is comparable to our recently reviewed 2022 Kia EV6 and can deliver 314 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Performance trim level, which is what our tester has, has significantly more powerful motors producing 429 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, the GV60 comes equipped with a “Boost” button on the steering wheel. When pressed, this button can provide you with all of the car’s power for 10 seconds, resulting in up to 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. It’s a fun feature that can make you feel like you have a nitrous shot.
If you choose the Performance trim level for your 2023 Genesis GV60, the estimated range under optimal conditions is around 378 km. However, as with any EV, the actual range can be influenced by various factors, such as outside temperature, climate control settings, and driving habits. During our test period, which took place in winter, we found that the range was reduced to about 300 km, which can lead to range anxiety for some drivers.
The GV60 offers three levels of regenerative braking, which when combined with route planning and driving habit adjustments, can significantly increase the vehicle’s range. Though it may take some time to master this feature, the benefits of an extended range EV are well worth the initial adjustment period.
We had the opportunity to charge the GV60 using both a level 2 and level 3 charger during our week-long test drive. With a public level 2 charger, it took approximately 6 hours to charge from 20% to 80% at a rate of 7 kW. Meanwhile, using a DC charger, we were able to charge from 35% to 80% in just 32 minutes, thanks to the charging rate of up to 92 kW. Overall, the GV60 proved to be an excellent option for those looking for a reliable and high-performance electric vehicle with a smooth and convenient charging experience.
The GV60’s infotainment system is a joy to use, with a responsive touchscreen and intuitive controls. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are seamlessly integrated into the system when connected to the USB port. The floating center console with its volume slider adds a touch of modernity and convenience, and we appreciate that the climate controls are separate from the audio controls. The Bang & Olufsen Premium Audio system, with its 17 strategically placed speakers, delivers a concert hall-quality sound experience that is truly immersive. It is definitely one of the standout systems in this class.
The interior of the GV60 is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, thanks to its premium materials and clean, modern design. The front seats offer ample cushioning and support for long journeys. However, taller drivers may find the high seating position uncomfortable during extended drives. With room for up to four adults, the spacious cabin in the rear seat is a welcome feature for passengers. While the GV60 can accommodate a fifth passenger, it’s not ideal for extended periods. The vehicle also boasts 1,550 liters of cargo space, making it a perfect choice for a weekend getaway with your partner or small family. Overall, the well-designed and comfortable interior of the GV60 makes it a joy to ride in.
The 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance model comes with a range of advanced safety features to keep drivers and passengers safe. These include a forward-collision warning system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and a driver attention warning system. Additionally, the car has a range of standard safety features such as airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control. All of these features work together to ensure the highest levels of safety for drivers and passengers on the road.
The suspension in the 2023 Genesis GV60 has been finely tuned to provide a smooth ride and responsive handling. The GV60 has suspension that can adapt to various driving styles and road conditions. When set to the more aggressive performance mode, the active dampers do a superb job of keeping the ride comfortable and not too firm. On the whole, the GV60’s suspension is lauded for being well-balanced between ride quality and maneuverability.
The GV60 offers only two configuration options: the Advanced trim, which starts at $71,000, and the Performance trim, which comes in at an extra $8,000. Our test vehicle is the Performance trim, which provides several additional features and improvements compared to the Advanced trim.
The 2023 Genesis GV60 showcases that Genesis is making strides in the EV market and positioning itself as a key player. Building on the success of the GV70 and GV80, the GV60 offers a sleek design and advanced technology features. With an estimated driving range of up to 378 km and fast charging capabilities, the GV60 is a practical option for daily commutes or longer trips. The vehicle’s luxurious interior and safety features also make it a strong contender in the competitive EV market. The Cadillac Lyriq, Jaguar I-PACE, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT have something to be worried about. For those interested in purchasing or leasing an EV, the GV60 is worth considering. It definitely has our vote, and having a drift mode seals the deal for us.
