We had the opportunity to test the 2023 Altima SR Premium AWD thanks to Nissan Canada. Building on this legacy of design refinement, the 2023 Altima undergoes subtle yet impactful changes that enhance its visual appeal. An updated grille, sharper LED lighting, and distinctive darkened trim collectively contribute to a more poised road presence. Exclusively featured in the SR Premium model, the 19-inch wheels proudly display an engraved SR badge, solidifying its unique identity.
Upon pressing the unlock button and stepping inside the Altima, you’ll be greeted by a spacious and meticulously crafted environment. Ample head, leg, and knee room in both the front and rear ensure a comfortable journey for all passengers. The SR Premium model enhances the experience with powered and heated leather seats that offer generous bolstering and support. Complementing these features are a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, elegant metallic accents, and tastefully contrasting stitching.
Inside the cabin, the new 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system takes centre stage, seamlessly integrating modernity with user-friendly controls. This system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, enhancing the in-car experience. Additionally, the 9-speaker Bose Premium Audio system enriches the quality of your favourite music, delivering a satisfying sound experience. Safety remains a top priority with an inclusive suite of driver assistance features.
Under the hood lies a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces a healthy 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. This power is efficiently managed by a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a technology Nissan has mastered to provide smooth power delivery at any speed. It doesn’t feel overly fast, yet it doesn’t feel slow either.
While the Altima’s driving dynamics might not perfectly mirror its sporty appearance, it excels in fuel efficiency and provides a serene driving experience. According to Natural Resources Canada, the Altima SR Premium is rated at 9.3 L/100 km in the city and 6.7 L/100 km on the highway, with a combined rating of 8.1 L/100 km.
The Altima features an electronic dual-pinion steering system, which generally feels satisfactory in various driving conditions. However, some additional feedback in the steering would be appreciated, although it meets the expectations for this segment. The ride quality is generally good, as the suspension effectively absorbs road imperfections. It’s worth noting that the 19-inch rims do have a minor impact on ride comfort, but we find this acceptable due to the aesthetic advantages they offer over the compromised comfort.
The 2023 Nissan Altima offers a range of enticing trim levels to suit diverse preferences and needs. Starting with the Altima S AWD at $31,198, it presents an accessible entry point into the lineup. Stepping up, the Altima SR AWD, beginning at $34,098, introduces a sportier edge and enhanced features for a dynamic driving experience.
Our test vehicle is the Altima SR Premium AWD, standing out as the pinnacle of luxury and performance within this lineup, starting at $36,298. It combines premium features, sporty aesthetics, and advanced technology to provide a well-rounded and personalized driving experience.
