I’ll be honest: when Harley-Davidson first announced the Pan America lineup, I wasn’t entirely convinced it was a great idea. Harley, the brand synonymous with chrome, thunderous idle shake and a very particular kind of rider, suddenly deciding to build an adventure bike? It felt like watching a heavyweight boxer try ballet — you know, admirable, but maybe not necessary. So when the Pan America 1250 ST arrived, essentially the street-focused sibling of the Pan America Special, I approached it with a healthy dose of skepticism. Another spin-off of a bike I wasn’t sure Harley should’ve built in the first place. And yet, after riding it, I can say this without hesitation: this might be the best Harley-Davidson that looks and feels nothing like a Harley-Davidson I’ve ever ridden.

The Pan America ST is a complete 180 from Harley’s past, and that’s exactly why it works. If you removed the badging, I’d struggle to identify it as a Harley. The silhouette is upright and athletic, the proportions are modern, and the design language is more European than American. Even the soundtrack is different. Yes, the engine is big, very on-brand for Harley, but the tone isn’t the familiar rumble. It doesn’t shake at idle, it doesn’t throb through the bars, and it’s liquid-cooled, which is practically heresy in the traditional Harley universe. The indicators are on one side like every other motorcycle, not split across the bars. And then there’s the rev counter, which swings all the way to 9,000 rpm. On a Harley-Davidson. I genuinely had a moment where I wondered if I’d slipped into the Twilight Zone.
But here’s the thing: all these deviations from Harley tradition are exactly what make the Pan America ST the most exciting thing the company has done in decades. Once you get on it, you realize this is the direction Harley should’ve explored years ago. This bike is the gateway to a new kind of Harley rider, someone who values versatility, modern engineering and performance without the baggage of legacy expectations. And I truly believe anyone who rides the Pan America ST will seriously consider buying it.

The ST is Harley’s entry into the street-focused adventure segment, and it fits right in. The riding position is comfortable and approachable, giving you that confident, commanding stance that makes city riding and weekend blasts equally enjoyable. The 1,252cc Revolution Max V-Twin is an absolute monster, delivering 150 horsepower with a flat, usable powerband up to 4,000 rpm. Push past that and it feels like the variable valve timing wakes up, kicking the bike into another dimension entirely. It pulls hard all the way to 8,500 rpm, and paired with the quickshifter, the ST becomes unapologetically quick — the kind of speed that scratches every itch without ever feeling unruly. Harley-Davidson Canada rates the engine at 150 hp at 8,750 rpm and 127 Nm of torque.
Despite sharing DNA with the Pan America Special, the ST is not just a stripped-down ADV bike. It’s genuinely built for the street. The 17-inch wheels front and back sharpen manoeuvrability, the lower ride height makes it more approachable for newer riders, and the Adaptive Ride Height control, which is standard, lowers the bike at a stop, boosting confidence. It’s also about 30 pounds lighter than the Special, and you can feel that reduction immediately. Without a dedicated off-road mode to soften throttle response, the ST is happiest on pavement. It can handle rough roads, but it’s not pretending to be an ADV machine. It knows what it is. Harley lists the ST at 248 kg ready to ride compared with 262 kg for the Pan America Special.

Wind protection is solid, with a front windshield that deflects air well and a large centre vent that brings welcome airflow to your helmet at city speeds. But that same vent becomes a problem on the highway, creating significant wind noise. And while the bike is liquid-cooled, the heat coming off the exhaust onto your inner thigh can be intense — at times piercingly hot. It’s something Harley needs to address. The kickstand placement is another quirk, sitting ahead of the gear lever and forcing you to double-check that you’re not accidentally nudging the bike into first while trying to put the stand down.

Still, the Pan America ST comes loaded with features: heated grips, cruise control, ABS, stability control, traction control and an integrated infotainment system when paired with the H-D mobile app, giving you access to maps and other functions. There’s USB power up front, a trickle-charger connector and all the modern conveniences you’d expect from a premium motorcycle.
And that’s the point: the Pan America ST is a modern Harley. It’s the Harley for riders who want performance, versatility and technology without the constraints of tradition. It’s the bike that proves Harley can evolve, adapt and build something that appeals to a completely different audience. It’s the bike that shows Harley doesn’t have to be defined by what it used to be.
The 2026 Pan America ST is the boldest, smartest and most refreshing move Harley-Davidson has made in years. And if this is the direction they’re heading, the future of Harley might be far more exciting and far more diverse than anyone expected.
