There is a common misconception that electric performance cars sacrifice driver involvement for outright speed. The 2026 BMW i4 M60 xDrive Gran Coupe proves that isn’t always the case. While it delivers the instant acceleration expected of a modern EV, what makes the i4 M60 genuinely impressive is that it still feels unmistakably like a BMW.
Replacing the outgoing M50 as the flagship i4, the new M60 gains a healthy increase in power while retaining the practical four-door Gran Coupe body. It isn’t a dedicated M car in the traditional sense, but it comes remarkably close to delivering that experience without the compromises of an internal combustion engine. Power comes from dual electric motors producing a combined 593 horsepower and 586 lb-ft. of torque, enough to propel the i4 M60 from 0–100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. Those figures are firmly within sports car territory. BMW’s Sport Boost function briefly unleashes maximum output, turning highway merges and passing manoeuvres into effortless affairs.
The i4 M60 disguises its weight exceptionally well. The battery pack mounted beneath the floor lowers the centre of gravity, giving the car remarkable stability through fast sweepers and excellent body control during rapid direction changes. Adaptive M suspension and variable sport steering help maintain the balanced feel enthusiasts expect from BMW. The steering remains one of the highlights. It is accurate, naturally weighted and confident when pushing harder on winding roads. The regenerative braking system offers adjustable levels of energy recovery, although the strongest setting still doesn’t deliver true one-pedal driving. Traditional friction brakes blend smoothly with regeneration, resulting in reassuringly consistent stopping power.
Visually, BMW has wisely resisted the temptation to make the i4 appear overly futuristic. Instead, it builds upon the elegant proportions of the 4 Series Gran Coupe with subtle EV-specific touches. The long hood, low roofline and short rear deck create a sleek silhouette that looks athletic without trying too hard. Our Wildberry Metallic M60 distinguishes itself with 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, M-specific bumpers and gloss black accents. Viewed from the side, the flowing roofline gives the i4 a genuine four-door coupe appearance, while the liftback design adds a level of practicality rarely found in high-performance sedans.
Inside, the Ivory White Full Merino Leather cabin strikes an excellent balance between luxury and sportiness. Supportive M Sport seats provide enough bolstering for spirited driving without becoming uncomfortable during longer journeys. Premium materials cover nearly every surface, while the minimalist dashboard design contributes to an airy and modern atmosphere. Rear-seat accommodation is respectable considering the coupe-inspired roofline, although taller passengers will notice slightly reduced headroom compared with a traditional sedan.
Technology plays a major role in the ownership experience. Dominating the dashboard is BMW’s curved display, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen running BMW’s latest operating system. Graphics are crisp, menus are logically organized and the system responds quickly to inputs. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while the built-in navigation intelligently plans charging stops based on battery level and route conditions.
The combination of touchscreen functionality and traditional buttons creates a more intuitive user experience than systems that bury every function within digital menus. The head-up display remains one of the best in the industry, presenting navigation directions, speed and driver-assistance information directly within the driver’s line of sight.
Powering the i4 M60 is an 83.8-kWh high-voltage battery that delivers an estimated driving range of up to 447 kilometres. While efficiency naturally declines when exploiting the car’s immense performance, the available range remains entirely practical for daily commuting and weekend road trips.
Charging capability is equally competitive. Using a DC fast charger capable of delivering up to 205 kW, the battery can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions. During our test, the i4 M60 took six hours on a Level 2 AC charger to move from 64 to 99 percent, adding 34.2 kWh at a cost of $9.07. A separate DC fast-charging session took 56 minutes to move from 31 to 85 percent, adding 46 kWh at a cost of $18.71.
The BMW i4 M60 xDrive Gran Coupe has a base price of $82,900. Our tester had $23,250 worth of optional extras, bringing the price to $106,150.
The 2026 BMW i4 M60 xDrive Gran Coupe demonstrates that electrification doesn’t have to come at the expense of driver engagement. Yes, it’s astonishingly quick, but plenty of EVs are. What separates the BMW is its composure, steering precision and willingness to entertain beyond a straight line. Add a beautifully finished cabin, genuinely useful hatchback practicality and fast charging capability, and the i4 M60 becomes far more than simply an electric performance sedan. It feels like the natural evolution of the Ultimate Driving Machine, one that happens to run entirely on electricity.
