Get your wagons while you still can! For the 2025 model year, Volvo has discontinued the mild hybrid V60, leaving only the Polestar Engineered plug-in and Cross Country mild hybrid models for customers to choose from. While the 455-horsepower sleeper estate is more of a niche product, we think the V60 Cross Country will be the model most consumers will look at.

Volvo Canada has given us the 2025 Volvo V60 Cross Country B5 Ultra for the week. Unlike the V90 Cross Country that we’ve reviewed, the V60 Cross Country is powered by their B5 engine moniker, which is a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt hybrid system. This makes 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s enough to get the V60 moving with smooth acceleration and shifts from the transmission. The ride is composed and handles well in corners; we like to firm up the steering feel in the settings for better response. The V60 Cross Country has standard AWD and a ground clearance of 7.7 inches.

Our tester model comes in Vapour Grey Metallic and is fitted with optional 20-inch Matte Graphite Diamond Cut wheels. There is no question that Volvo makes some of the most well-designed wagons. The V60 Cross Country features its own distinctive chrome grille, bright aluminum roof rails, and minimal plastic cladding. The Ultra trim level adds brushed stainless steel side scuff plates that have ‘Cross Country’ engraved on them, adding to its rugged looks.

Interior comfort and quality have always been a strong suit for Volvo. The Ultra trim level adds Blond ventilated Nappa leather seats with contrast Charcoal interior, Driftwood décor, Orrefors crystal gear shift, and a tailored dashboard to further enhance the V60 Cross Country’s contemporary design. Both the 12-inch driver’s display and 9-inch center display are simple and easy to use since Volvo switched to Android Automotive. While it is user-friendly, the system can be slow to boot up at times and lacks the ability for customization compared to other brands. Apple CarPlay is standard but only works when plugged into the car. Optional extras on our tester include massage functions for the front seats and a 15-speaker 1410W Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity sound system.

Rear legroom is about the same between the V60 Cross Country and V90 Cross Country (0.7 inches longer), so passengers will have no complaints about space. Using the power tailgate, cargo space will be your deciding factor on which wagon you want. The V60CC has 519L behind the 60/40 split-folding rear seats and 1431L with the seats folded down, which is 32L and 86L less than the V90CC.

Volvo equips the V60CC with parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display, blind-spot monitoring, and cross-traffic alert. We like the Pilot Assist function, which is Volvo’s adaptive cruise control system. It proved useful by maintaining the distance from the car in front as well as keeping the vehicle centered in the lane.

According to EnerGuide, the Volvo V60CC’s fuel economy is rated at 9.7L/100KM city, 7.5L/100KM highway, for a combined 8.7L/100KM. We’ve achieved 8.4L/100KM for the week.

The V60 Cross Country starts at $54,800 for the Core trim, $60,100 for the Plus trim, and $66,800 for the Ultra trim. Our tester comes in at $76,764, including taxes and delivery.

Wagons are a rarity, but they really do make excellent family cars. With Volvo’s long history of station wagons, the V60 Cross Country will be a perfect fit for everyday needs and quick weekend trips. The Cross Country name doesn’t have real off-road capabilities, but you’ll be confident behind the wheel in all seasons. Combining good handling, Scandinavian design, and versatility, the V60 Cross Country will be a great alternative to the SUV.
