Volkswagen’s 2025 Tiguan Highline R-Line arrives with purpose: to blend everyday practicality with refined style and enough substance to satisfy modern families. Straddling the space between sensible and spirited, this compact SUV is designed for daily life, whether that means school runs, weekend escapes, or the odd snowy adventure.

Under the hood, the Tiguan uses Volkswagen’s tried-and-true 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing about 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft. of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The result is smooth, confident acceleration with enough pep for highway merging and everyday driving. For those who crave a little more punch, Volkswagen has announced that a stronger 268-horsepower turbocharged option will join the lineup for 2026, promising enhanced performance without sacrificing efficiency.
In regular driving, the Tiguan’s powertrain is refined and unobtrusive. The automatic transmission shifts seamlessly, and the all-wheel-drive system builds confidence in all conditions. The Tiguan offers composed and predictable road manners that inspire confidence. Around twisty backroads, the body leans a little, as you’d expect from a family SUV, but the steering feels communicative and balanced. On rough pavement or pothole-scarred city streets, the suspension absorbs imperfections without unsettling passengers.

The 2025 Tiguan’s redesign gives it a fresh personality without turning it into something it’s not. Clean, confident lines sweep from nose to tail, with a wider grille and sleek LED headlights that modernize the front end. Our Avocado Green Pearl tester elevates the look further with sportier bumpers, R-Line-specific side skirts, and bold 20-inch alloy wheels. The R-Line’s subtle black accents and body-matched mirrors communicate a performance-inspired edge without resorting to unnecessary gimmicks.
Step inside and it’s clear Volkswagen didn’t just dress up the outside. The Tiguan’s cabin pairs premium materials with smart design. The Highline R-Line boasts features such as ambient lighting, genuine open-pore American walnut trim, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera with parking sensors. There’s a new multifunction rotary dial that lets you control volume, drive modes, and Atmosphere settings. Our model comes with quilted amber brown leather seats, which are supportive and comfortable even on long journeys. Heated seats are standard in both rows, while the front seats add ventilation and massage functions.

Volkswagen’s layout is intuitive. Climate controls are easy to reach, the 15-inch infotainment system responds without lag, and visibility is generous. Rear passengers get their own air vents and plenty of legroom. Wireless charging and multiple USB-C ports help keep devices ready for streaming or navigation on the go. One of the Tiguan’s biggest strengths is its cargo capacity: about 615 litres behind the rear seats and around 1,668 litres with them folded down.
Fuel economy remains reasonable for a compact all-wheel-drive SUV, rated at 10.5L/100km city, 7.8L/100km highway, and 9.3L/100km combined. We averaged 9.0L/100km during our weeklong test. Pricing starts at $36,495 for the Trendline, $39,995 for the Comfortline, $43,495 for the Comfortline R-Line Black Edition, and $47,495 for the Highline R-Line.
This Tiguan may not be the fastest SUV on the block, but it’s one of the most versatile. It handles daily duties with ease, whether you’re ferrying kids to hockey, loading up for a weekend cottage trip, or navigating rush-hour traffic. Interior comforts and tech keep everyone happy, and the generous cargo room makes packing simple. Roof rails, a hands-free liftgate, and smart storage nooks further enhance usability.
Add in the approachable design and confident road manners, and you’ve got a vehicle that fits neatly into a wide range of lifestyles: practical for parents, attractive for style-conscious buyers, and capable enough for spontaneous getaways.
The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Highline R-Line strikes a rewarding balance. It’s practical yet stylish, comfortable yet engaging, and confident without feeling overblown. With the 2026 turbo option on the horizon, Volkswagen has shown it’s thinking ahead by offering more performance for those who want it.
In a segment crowded with capable competitors, the Tiguan stands out for its thoughtful design and everyday usability. It’s not a fire-breather thrill machine, but as a family-friendly SUV with a sense of flair and substance, it’s hard to beat. Whether you’re tackling weekdays or weekends, it’s the sort of vehicle that makes you look forward to driving.
