Plug-in hybrids often feel like compromises — a foot in both worlds, never fully committing to either. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4MATIC manages to make that balancing act look effortless. It’s the kind of SUV that lets you glide silently through morning traffic on electric power, then hit the highway for a weekend escape without a single thought about range.

Beneath the hood sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor. Together, they make a healthy 313 horsepower and roughly 406 lb-ft of torque — numbers that translate into smooth, satisfying thrust rather than neck-snapping drama. The nine-speed automatic gearbox does its job quietly in the background, and the standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive keeps things stable when the roads turn slick.
Our Spectral Blue Metallic tester features the Night Package, AMG Line Package, 20-inch AMG multispoke wheels, and wheel arch extensions that give it a planted, athletic stance. It’s the sort of design that’ll still look good five winters from now, even covered in salt and slush.

Mercedes didn’t reinvent the GLC for its plug-in version, and that’s probably a good thing. The 350e looks exactly how you’d expect a modern Benz SUV to look: confident, sculpted, and tastefully restrained. The LED headlights have that precise, jewel-like quality, and the body lines are taut without being fussy. The only giveaways that this is a plug-in are the charge port on the rear quarter panel and subtle badging — the kind that nods quietly rather than shouts.
The added battery weight is there if you go looking for it, but Mercedes’ suspension tuning does a remarkable job keeping things composed. The 350e feels secure, planted, and polished; less a performance SUV and more a serene cruiser that just happens to handle itself well when pushed. Around town, the electric motor provides instant torque for traffic gaps, and when the gas engine joins in, the transition is so smooth you’ll barely notice.

Here’s where the GLC 350e really earns its keep. With a 24.8 kWh battery, it offers about 87 kilometres of electric range, which is one of the best figures among plug-in luxury SUVs. For many Canadian commuters, that means the gas engine can stay asleep all week. You can plug in at home overnight on a Level 2 charger and wake up to a full battery before your morning commute. Unlike most plug-in hybrids, the 350e also supports DC fast charging up to about 60 kW, which can add meaningful range in under half an hour. It’s a rare feature in this class and genuinely useful if you find yourself low on charge mid-journey, but keep in mind that Mercedes will charge you $600 for this option.

Step inside, and it’s clear this is still a Mercedes first, hybrid second. The cabin feels impeccably put together — rich materials, ambient lighting that can set the mood just right, and a third-generation MBUX setup that’s both futuristic and friendly. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 11.9-inch center display offer crisp graphics, while the touch-control buttons on the steering wheel aid in accessing both screens.
Our tester is fully loaded with the Exclusive and Pinnacle trims, which feature a panoramic sunroof, a 15-speaker Burmester 3D Surround Sound System, MB Navigation, and an OFFROAD dash display with “Transparent Hood” so you can see what’s underneath your vehicle if you’re on rougher terrain.

The AMG Neva Grey ARTICO seats strike a sweet balance between plush and supportive, while the rear offers reasonable space for adults. The only compromise is in the trunk: the battery eats up a bit of room under the floor, but with around 470 to 1530 litres of cargo space, it’s still plenty practical for everyday use.
Mercedes continues to lead with tech that feels like it’s on your side rather than in your face. Blind Spot Assist, Active Parking Assist, and automated emergency braking all come standard. Optional upgrades like the 360-degree camera and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC make long drives more relaxed. You never feel like the car is driving for you, but it definitely has your back.
The GLC 350e starts at $64,900, and our tester has $16,350 in extras, bumping the total MSRP to $81,250.
The 2025 GLC 350e isn’t trying to make you choose between electric and gasoline — it simply gives you both, elegantly packaged and easy to live with. It’s ideal for urban professionals, small families, or anyone who wants to dip a toe into EV life without giving up the flexibility of a gas tank. As an everyday companion, it’s one of the most convincing luxury plug-in hybrids on sale.
