The 2025 BMW i4 eDrive40 in Cape York Green Metallic carries itself with a quiet confidence, the kind that comes from a brand that understands how to make an electric car feel like a proper BMW. The colour alone turns heads, shifting in the light and tracing the lines of the body in a way that gives the car depth and personality. It blends elegance with a hint of aggression, just like the best BMW sedans always have.

BMW has been fine tuning its electric lineup for years, and you can feel that experience the moment you start driving. The i4 eDrive40 uses an 84.3 kWh battery paired with a single rear motor that delivers 335 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The numbers are strong, but what stands out is how quickly and cleanly it responds to your right foot. It pulls with a silent, controlled rush that feels both athletic and relaxed. Around town, the throttle is smooth and predictable. On the highway, it settles into a calm rhythm with enough passing power to make every merge feel effortless.
The chassis is tuned with the precision you expect from BMW. The steering feels direct, and the car moves with a balance that reminds you why BMW’s electric sedans stand out. The battery’s low placement gives it a planted feel through corners, and the suspension takes the edge off rougher roads without dulling the feedback. It does not try to imitate a gas M car, but it still feels distinctly BMW in the way it traces a curve and settles itself on exit.

Inside, the cabin blends modern tech with the warmth of traditional BMW design. The Black Perforated Sensatec upholstery feels comfortable and upscale, and the Fineline Light Open Pored Wood trim adds a natural texture that softens the digital environment. BMW’s curved display stretches across the dash, running Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect. It is crisp, fast, and laid out in a way that makes sense once you spend a day with it. You never feel like you are fighting the system to get simple tasks done.
The Premium Enhanced Package, priced at $9,900, rounds out the experience with features that actually make daily use better. Comfort Access is one of those conveniences you miss once you give it up. The BMW IconicSounds Electric feature adds a bit of emotion to heavier throttle inputs, giving the car a touch more character. Safety features like Driving Assistant and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are intuitive and predictable in tighter parking situations.
The optional M Sport Package sharpens the look and adds some of that classic BMW athleticism. The redesigned M Aerodynamic components give it a wider, more confident stance, and the 19 inch JetBlack Aero wheels suit the Cape York Green paint perfectly. The blue M Sport Brakes are more than just an aesthetic touch. They offer confident stopping power and feel firm underfoot when you lean into them. The Glass Controls and Black Exterior Contents elevate the cabin and exterior with subtle luxury touches that feel right for a car in this price range.

A couple of practical quirks stood out during the week. The rear visibility is tighter than expected due to the sloping roofline. It looks great from the outside, but the rear window feels small when reversing. The camera system makes up for it, and I found myself relying on it more often than usual. The trunk offers good space, but the opening is a bit narrow. Larger items fit, although they sometimes need to be angled in with more care than expected in a sedan of this size.
Range varies with conditions, but the i4 eDrive40 remains efficient and practical for daily use. Home charging makes ownership simple, and overnight Level 2 charging is all you need to start each day with a full battery.
Priced at $80,040 as tested, the 2025 BMW i4 eDrive40 lands in a sweet spot for drivers who want an electric vehicle that still feels connected to the road. It delivers the smooth torque and quiet cruising expected from an EV, but it also holds onto the traits that made BMW sedans engaging in the first place. It is quick, comfortable, refined, and confidently crafted, offering a driving experience that respects BMW’s heritage while moving it forward in a meaningful way.
