Introduced in 1989, the Subaru Legacy has stood the test of time as a reliable midsize sedan; celebrated for its blend of practicality, all-wheel-drive capability, and safety features.In 2021, Subaru unveiled the Legacy GT, reviving the revered “GT” moniker and injecting a newfound sense of performance into the Legacy lineup. The 2024 Subaru Legacy GT embodies the fusion of performance and practicality that defines the Legacy heritage. Featuring a 2.4-liter flat four-cylinder turbocharged BOXER engine, the GT variant churns out an impressive 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, accentuating the car’s performance while maintaining Subaru’s hallmark Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), the Legacy GT offers responsive power delivery and brisk acceleration, striking a balance between spirited driving and everyday usability.
Externally, the Legacy GT retains the clean and sophisticated design language seen in other Subaru sedans, accentuated by subtle GT badges, a sportier front grille, and exclusive wheel designs that distinguish it within the lineup.
Inside, the cabin exudes a sense of understated luxury, boasting high-quality materials and a user-friendly layout. The GT trim showcases distinctive interior accents, such as aluminum pedals, unique upholstery options, and a sport-oriented steering wheel, enhancing the overall driving experience.
The front seats of the Legacy GT offer excellent comfort and support, ideal for long drives. They are well-cushioned, providing a pleasant seating experience. The rear seats continue the trend of offering generous space and comfort for passengers. The ample legroom and headroom in the back ensure that rear occupants can sit comfortably without feeling cramped. The cargo room in the trunk of the Legacy GT is noteworthy, providing above-average room for all your long weekend getaways bits.
The suspension system in the Legacy GT strikes a balance between sporty handling and comfortable ride quality. It offers a slightly firmer feel, reducing body roll during cornering while effectively absorbing road imperfections for a smooth and composed ride.
The steering in the Legacy GT is precise and responsive, offering a direct connection between the driver and the road. It strikes a balance between providing feedback and ensuring ease of use during daily commutes, complementing the vehicle’s overall dynamics.
Technology plays a vital role in the Legacy GT, with an intuitive infotainment system featuring a large touchscreen display equipped with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. There is a suite of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist with lane centering, and automatic emergency braking. Subaru’s commitment to safety and driver assistance is hard to compete with.
The Legacy GT achieves competitive fuel economy, offering an estimated 10.1L/100km in the city and 7.5L/100km on the highway, with a combined rating of 9.0L/100km. During our test period, we observed a return of 8.4L/100km, which we found satisfactory. These figures, coupled with the car’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, demonstrate a commendable balance between performance and efficiency in its class.
The 2024 Subaru Legacy GT comes with a starting price of $43,395, placing it competitively in the midsize sedan segment. Although the initial cost may be slightly higher than some competitors, the Legacy GT justifies its pricing with a combination of performance, safety features, and all-wheel-drive capability. These factors contribute to its overall value proposition.
