Mercedes-Benz has always been committed to delivering luxury, advanced technology, and superior comfort. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC Sedan feels like entering a realm where luxury and innovation are embodied in every inch of the vehicle. Entering its sixth generation, this midsize luxury sedan is fully redesigned and ready to impress.

We had the E450 for the week, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz Canada. This tester is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, delivering 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The engine and nine-speed automatic transmission provide impressive power and grace, ensuring that acceleration is both smooth and satisfying. The standard 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system ensures that power is distributed effectively across all four wheels, and its suspension system also strikes an excellent balance between comfort and handling, offering a serene experience when cruising. If you want an even more luxurious ride, the optional AIRMATIC package includes air suspension, adaptive dampers, and 4.5-degree rear-wheel steering. While the E-Class is engaging to drive, the steering feels a little too light for our taste, but this can be overlooked as it’s all about luxury.

From the moment you lay eyes on the E-Class, it’s clear that this is no ordinary vehicle. To the untrained eye, the new E-Class looks similar to the flagship S-Class. Our tester is finished in Nautical Blue Metallic and is fitted with optional 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels. Its design is a stunning marriage of sophistication and sportiness, with standard AMG body styling and door handles that retract flush into the sleek profile of the vehicle. The front grille, gleaming with the iconic Mercedes star, instantly commands attention and is illuminated as part of the Pinnacle trim package. The new LED tail lamps are hit-or-miss; we think they’re repetitive and an overload of how many stars Mercedes can embed in one car.

The cabin is a sanctuary crafted with luxurious Tonka Brown/Black leather, black open-pore ash wood trim, 64-color LED ambient lighting, and the 17-speaker Burmester 4D Surround Sound system. When it comes to comfort, the E450 is in a league of its own. As standard equipment, these supportive front seats are heated, ventilated, and feature ENERGIZING seat kinetics to help reduce driver fatigue. Our tester has the optional Multicontour seating package, which adds many massage programs, heated rear seats, the AIR BALANCE package, and ENERGIZING Comfort Plus, which transforms the car into a 10-minute meditation session, working with the climate control, ambient lighting, sounds, seat massage, and cabin fragrance. It’s a guaranteed first-class experience every time.

The E-Class is the first to feature the MBUX Superscreen. Our E450 has this optional setup with a 14.4-inch third-generation MBUX system and a 12.3-inch front passenger display under one span of glass. It is the most striking example of how the brand has merged innovation with intuitive design. The three digital screens—the central display, the 12.3-inch driver’s instrument cluster, and the passenger screen—create a cockpit that feels ahead of its time. The passenger screen offers entertainment, comfort settings, and various options to assist the driver. It’s not distracting at night behind the wheel, but be mindful of this $1,800 package, as it shows fingerprints and glare on sunny days. There’s also an interior video camera that captures selfies if you’re into that.

The MBUX system is intuitive, as it learns from your preferences and adapts over time, making your interaction feel personalized. It doesn’t just respond to voice commands; it understands them. From adjusting the climate control to closing the sunshades or asking for the weather, it’s less daunting than trying to use the touch control buttons on the steering wheel. Add in augmented reality navigation, which overlays directional arrows on a live feed from the front camera, and you’ll feel like the car is guiding you through the world with a level of precision that’s almost futuristic.
The Driver Assistance Package makes the E450 one of the safest cars on the road. The adaptive cruise control maintains a safe distance from the car ahead, while lane-keeping assist ensures you stay centered in your lane, even on long, monotonous stretches of road. The system can also change lanes automatically. It’s a driving experience that takes a lot of the stress out of being on the road.
The E450 is rated at 10.8 L/100 km in the city and 7.7 L/100 km on the highway, for a combined 9.3 L/100 km. We achieved 8.5 L/100 km during our test.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class starts at $74,900 for the E350 4MATIC and goes up to $84,900 for the E450 4MATIC. With close to $14,000 in options, you’ll begin to realize how expensive luxury adds up. Our tester has a total price of $102,185.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC Sedan is more than just a mode of transportation—it’s an experience. With its harmonious blend of luxury, technology, and performance, it’s the kind of car that makes you look forward to every drive. For those who demand the best, the E-Class delivers not just in terms of style and performance but in creating a driving experience that is truly a cut above.
