The seventh-generation Mustang continues to embody the spirit of American muscle while incorporating modern technology and a more environmentally conscious approach. As part of the iconic Mustang lineage, this model caters to those seeking exhilarating performance with the added joy of open-air driving. Our thanks to Ford Canada for allowing us to explore the 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium Convertible.
At the heart of the Mustang EcoBoost Convertible is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine that produces a robust 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. This engine strikes a balance between power and efficiency. The EcoBoost’s performance is impressive, offering spirited acceleration that can hold its own against some of its V8-powered siblings.
Our tester comes with the ten-speed automatic transmission, which offers smooth shifts. The Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive layout enhances handling, delivering a responsive and enjoyable driving experience. The optional Active Valve Performance Exhaust has four settings to control how loud the exhaust system will be. The exhaust itself won’t convince anyone that you have the GT, but we do like Quiet Mode during the early and late hours of the day. The Remote Rev feature is especially exciting with the automatic transmission and active exhaust, allowing you to use the key fob to rev the engine as many times as you like.
Ford has also integrated an independent rear suspension system, which helps improve ride quality and cornering performance. The EcoBoost model features selectable drive modes, allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle’s dynamics to their preferences, whether they prefer a relaxed cruise or a more spirited drive. Accessing the Track Apps menu provides the driver with performance-focused information such as auxiliary gauges, acceleration timer, brake performance, and launch settings.
The 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Convertible retains the bold, aggressive stance that has made it a symbol of American automotive culture. The retractable soft top can be opened or closed with ease but only when the car is stationary. Our tester is finished in Carbonized Grey Metallic and has the optional Bronze Appearance Package, which includes 19-inch Sinister Bronze painted wheels and bronze exterior badging.
Up front, the Mustang features Ford’s signature tri-bar LED headlights and a prominent grille that exudes confidence. The rear end is equally striking with sleek taillights, while the quad exhaust outlets enhance its performance capabilities.
The interior of the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Convertible is a blend of retro-inspired design and modern technology. The cockpit is driver-focused, with a sporty layout that includes supportive Carmine Red seats which are heated and ventilated. Driver seat memory, a heated steering wheel, and aluminum foot pedals add to the comfort of this vehicle. It’s reasonably quiet with the top up, however, there is still noticeable wind noise during highway cruising.
Ford has equipped the Mustang with a host of technology features to enhance the driving experience. The cockpit consists of a 12.4” LCD digital cluster and a 13.2-inch touchscreen SYNC4 infotainment system. This system is intuitive and responsive, offering seamless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We love the motion graphics for each drive mode and the throwback gauges, particularly the Fox Body design. Additionally, the 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system elevates the audio experience, providing crisp sound quality.
Our Mustang EcoBoost Convertible has a backup camera, rear parking sensors, and a lane-keeping system as standard. The optional Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ features adaptive cruise control with Stop-and-Go, blind-spot monitoring, intelligent speed assist, and predictive speed assist.
According to EnerGuide, the EcoBoost Mustang receives 10.8L/100KM in the city, 7.1L/100KM on the highway, for a combined 9.2L/100KM. We got 9.5L/100KM during the week.
With nine different models to choose from, consumers can decide between the fastback and convertible options, as well as their preferred powertrain. The Mustang EcoBoost Fastback starts at $40,425 and goes up to $82,060 for the Dark Horse Premium. Our EcoBoost Premium Convertible has a total MSRP of $56,940.
