The 2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS is a compact SUV that seamlessly combines style with cutting-edge features, catering to a variety of lifestyles. Designed for urban living and beyond, this model provides an agile and fuel-efficient ride, appealing especially to Chevrolet enthusiasts. We extend our gratitude to General Motors Canada for the opportunity to evaluate this Crimson Metallic 2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS for a week.
This iteration of the Chevrolet Trax marks a significant evolution from its predecessors, boasting broader, lower, and extended dimensions that evoke the rugged elegance of the Chevrolet Blazer within a more compact frame. Its sleek and contemporary design not only captures attention but also draws parallels to its larger counterpart, leaving a lasting impression on onlookers.
Under the hood of the Trax rests a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, generating 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Despite seemingly modest figures, the Trax feels dynamic when navigating city streets. However, some drivers may yearn for more passing power on highways. Paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission, it efficiently delivers power with remarkable responsiveness.
Another standout feature of the Trax is its gratifying steering feel. With lively and well-weighted steering, it offers swift and precise responses to driver inputs. Moreover, the Trax ensures a comfortable and composed ride, thanks to its well-balanced suspension system. Minimal body roll and predictable handling guarantee a smooth journey, whether commuting to work or embarking on a road trip.
Step into the Trax, and you’ll encounter a cabin that radiates both style and comfort. The meticulously crafted interior boasts premium materials and intuitive controls, fostering a welcoming environment for both driver and passengers. Ample legroom for rear-seat passengers and competitive cargo space further augment the Trax’s appeal.
Equipped with an extensive array of safety features, the Trax prioritizes security on every journey. These include Chevrolet Safety Assist components such as Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam-Auto High Beam. Additionally, the Trax comes equipped with a theft deterrent system, HD rear vision camera, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.
The 11″ diagonal color HD touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration proves easy to set up and incredibly responsive. While the six-speaker audio system may not exceed the highest expectations, it adequately reproduces all notes of your daily soundtracks. Optional packages, including the 2RS package we had for the week, offer features such as a power sunroof and wireless charger, further enhancing the driving experience.
With generous cargo space of up to 1,532 liters with the rear seats folded down, the Trax offers practicality without compromise, making it ideal for hauling groceries, luggage, or any other essentials.
The 2024 Chevrolet Trax accommodates various budgets, starting with the LS trim at $21,699. The 1RS trim begins at $23,199, while the LT trim starts at $25,899 for additional features. At the top, the 2RS and Activ trims start at $27,999 for premium offerings. Our 2RS model came with an as-tested price of $29,989, including added features like the sunroof package, Crimson Metallic paint, block heater, and cargo area organizer.
With competitive fuel efficiency ratings of 8.4L/100 km in the city, 7.4L/100 km on the highway, and 7.9L/100 km in combined driving, the Trax proves its efficiency. Our own experience with the Trax mirrored these ratings, returning similar results at 7.6L/100 km during our 500 km mixed bag of city and highway driving.
Compared to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models like the Kia Seltos, Mazda CX-30, and Nissan Kicks, the Trax distinguishes itself with its competitive combination of features, performance, and affordability.
