The Honda Civic is one of those cars that everyone associates with great memories. For a long time it has been well known in the import scene, and is not yet ready to give up that distinction. The eleventh generation of the Civic is designed to not only enthrall the younger generation, but is also ready to take on a more mature one. It’s still a great option for thrill-seekers looking for a low-cost, high-performance vehicle.
The fully loaded 2022 Honda Civic Touring we evaluated earlier this year was our first taste of the revamped 2022 Honda Civic. We were left wanting more after our week in that tester, so when Honda Canada offered us the chance to test the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, we couldn’t say no.

This 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring was equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission, as well as standard 18-inch alloy wheels exclusive to the Sport and Sport Touring hatchback models as well as a Rallye Red paint scheme.
The Civic Hatchback has two engine options: a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine available in the LX trim and a direct-injected 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 180 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque at 1,700 rpm in Sport and Sport Touring. Our test vehicle, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox, performs well at highway speeds. Despite the apparent rev-hang when shifting between gears, you get used to it and shifting becomes smoother.
We’re keeping a close eye on our wallets, as rising gas prices appear to be the new normal. We’re always looking for ways to reduce our fuel consumption and save money. The city fuel consumption of the 2022 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring is 7.7 L/100 km, the highway fuel consumption is 6.3 L/100 km, and the combined fuel consumption is 7.1 L/100 km. We were able to almost match the combined average, with our weeklong test resulting in 7.3L/100km, which was great given that it was still a little chilly at the time.

The Sport Touring trim level includes a 9-inch infotainment screen with physical buttons for key functions such as the home screen and volume knob.
The Sport Touring has wireless phone charging as well as the ability to connect wirelessly to both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It goes without saying that the pairing procedure is straightforward. With just the right amount of low, mid, and high frequencies, the 12-speaker Bose sound system accurately represents all of the music you can play. With many soft-touch surfaces, the interior fit and finish is elegant. To keep things clean, a mesh panel hides the air vents, which are easy to operate thanks to a centrally located climate control.
A great driving experience has always been the Honda Civic’s calling card. The steering rack is responsive and gives just the right amount of feedback, but the six-speed manual transmission has a little too much rev-hang for our tastes. With a beefier body structure, the car is more stable than the previous model. In terms of value, the Civic Hatchback is one of the best options on the market.
The primary concern of many car buyers is safety, which Honda recognized and addressed in the Civic. Honda Sensing, a suite of driver-assist features that include blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning, is standard on the Honda Civic.
There are three different trim levels available for the Honda Civic Hatchback. The base price for the LX model is $28,650, while the Sport model costs $32,150 and the Sport Touring model costs $35,650. The Rallye Red paint was included in the price of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Touring, which came to an as-tested price of $35,950.
The Civic continues to strive to be the best in its class. Many safety features are included as standard equipment, and the vehicle offers a thrilling driving experience that is becoming increasingly difficult to top. When it comes to a car that seats four comfortably, has a large trunk, and can manage twisty roads, the Civic Hatchback is an excellent choice.
