Cadillac’s entry into the subcompact SUV market was hardly a surprise, given the market’s popularity and abundance of excellent options. The Cadillac XT4 made its official debut at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. In the brand’s SUV lineup, it contentedly shares space at the front with the XT5, XT6, Escalade, and Escalade ESV for 2022. The Cadillac XT4 is still a stylish SUV with the newest features Cadillac has to offer even after four years of production.

The 2022 Cadillac XT4 Sport AWD, Cadillac’s smallest SUV, was made available to us for a week of testing courtesy of GM Canada. It came equipped with 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels, Stellar Black Metallic paint, a 7-speaker Sound System, and an 8-inch diagonal colour reconfigurable gauge cluster.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission powers the XT4 Sport, producing 235 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque at 1800 – 4000 rpm. Our XT4 Sport test vehicle has the optional all-wheel-drive system, which can easily switch into front-wheel-drive mode through the selectable drive modes. This XT4 has no trouble reaching highway speeds and just the right amount of passing power, but as the rev range increases, we noticed that the engine becomes a little noisy.

The interior has Sedona (brown) leather seats with a massage feature, excellent lumbar support, and just the right amount of padding to make you comfortable for hours. Although there is a surprisingly large amount of rear legroom, three adults may find it too crowded in the back. As a result of the shortage of semiconductor chips, the heated and ventilated seat buttons are visible but inoperative.

The Cadillac CUE (Cadillac User Experience)-powered 8-inch infotainment screen is incredibly responsive and a pleasure to use, especially when using the voice prompts. However, it is slightly smaller than anticipated. The dash’s hard buttons for basic functions like climate control are a nice touch. It’s also convenient to have a physical volume knob, but it’s located just above the center console rather than the dash. Using a USB cable or wirelessly, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are seamlessly integrated. To minimize distractions, the wireless phone charger is conveniently tucked away. The seven speakers that came with our XT4 Sport tester’s audio system performed admirable at midrange and high-frequency ranges, but fell short at low frequencies. The additional cost of the premium 13-speaker option might be justified.

The XT4 Sport offers a comfortable and smooth ride, thanks to a softer suspension setup that soaks up road impurities with little detection. While we were fine with the small amount of comfort sacrificed by the optional 20″ rims and tire setup, some drivers might prefer to stick with the standard 18″ wheel setup. The 2022 Cadillac XT4 Sport handles corners surprisingly well, and the electric steering is pleasant in all drive modes.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is available in several trim levels, with the FWD Luxury starting at $36,098, and the top-tier AWD Premium Luxury starting at $43,298. Our as-tested price for our XT4 Sport trim was $57,308, which included the technology package, upgraded 20″ wheels, premium comfort and convenience package, enhanced visibility package, and sunroof.
The 2022 XT4 Sport is rated for 10.9L/100km of city driving and 8.2L/100km of highway driving in terms of fuel efficiency. We observed a respectable 8.9L/100km during our weeklong test period, which included a combination of city and highway driving. The XT4 Sport’s 61.7-litre fuel tank requires the use of 91-octane gasoline.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 Sport is a high-end subcompact SUV that has everything you’d expect from Cadillac. It has the most recent CUE software, top-notch interior components, fashionable wheels, and an exquisite exterior that is supported by a reputable luxury brand. If you’re looking for something to enter the luxury market with you should consider the XT4 as it includes all of Cadillac’s greatness
